Credit cards have been a part of our financial lives for so long now, that we sometimes take them too much for granted. Competition in this market place is enormous and has motivated the creation of a card that gives you something back when you use them - you are rewarded with either cash back or redeemable points every time you use it. How important is it to look around for the credit card with best rewards?

Of course, in our complex society, reward credit cards are not created the same, and it pays to shop around for the best deal. Nowadays, we should try to get every benefit we can from our cards. There are many cards out there, with various reward programs and interest rates. Your choice of credit card will be a result of your needs when taking into account the APR, rewards and the all important credit rating.

What Different Rewards Are On Offer?

Rewards could be cash bonus or points that can be exchanged for travel tickets, or products. If you fly a good deal, then a card giving points against flights as your reward might be perfect. Of course, cash is the biggest incentive and this seems to be the first choice, depending upon the fees and associated APR. Most reward cards carry elevated rates of interest, for example, but by no means all. If there is an annual charge or fee for the rewards credit card, you should offset this charge with the rewards value and make your choice accordingly.

A further limiting factor affecting your choice is the fact that some cards set a limit on the amount of rewards you can receive in a fixed time period. Even if you used your card very often, you will not get more than the figure agreed with your rewards agreement. This is one more component in your decision making - is there a limit on the amount of rewards you can receive?

You will need to use all of your rewards within the agreed time given. Cards have a limit date, after which you don't get the rewards. It's essential to be fully aware of any special terms governing taking the rewards. Can you take them all at once, or in parts within a fixed time period?

Some credit cards might have a minimum charging limit, and only spending more than this limit will accrue rewards. Be certain this limit is not so high, that you would need to charge more than you normally would, just to win rewards.
